Cemetery Division

There are six cemeteries in town that we maintain which contain approximately 37 acres of land.

    Hillside Cemetery  is located on Clinton Rd  just outside the center of Town and on the right as you head east towards Clinton.

    Oakhill Cemetery is located on Clinton Rd  just outside the center of Town and on the left as you head east towards Clinton. It was first established in approximately 1858.

    Chocksett Cemetery opened in the early 1700's and is located in the center of town between Maple Street and Clinton Road.

    Legg Cemetery is located on the corner of Dana Hill Road and Redemption Rock Trail ( route 140).  It is the burial place of Robert B. Thomas, Esq., the originator of the "Farmer's Almanac".

    Fairbanks Cemetery is the only family cemetery in town and is located on Chace Hill Road between Swett Hill and Kendal Hill Roads.

    Cookshire Cemetery is on the east end of Boutelle Road near the Houghton \ Chocksett School. 

Purchasing Cemetery Lots

Cemetery lots are available for purchase by Sterling residents in Hillside Cemetery only. If you are interested please call or stop by the DPW offices. One of our personnel will be happy to take you through Hillside Cemetery and show you lots that are available. See Map

Pricing is as follows:

    Single grave lot          $400.00

    Four grave lot           $1600.00

Burial fees are:

                                    Full burial                      Cremation

        Weekdays                $500.00                          $75.00

        Saturday                  $600.00                         $125.00

        Sunday & Holidays    $750.00                         $125.00

Once you have paid in full for a lot you may place a headstone on it. You must purchase two adjacent lots or a four grave lot to place a upright headstone on the lot. A flat marker is allowed on any single or multiple grave lot.
